As my teacher allowed me to write my post in french, I will do some short definitions about the symbols of the french revolution in my own language.

La revolution française qui a commencée en 1789 est représentée par plusieurs symboles:

- La fleur de lys qui est l'emblème de la monarchie.

- La marseillaise qui est l'hymne national.

- Le drapeau tricolore - drapeau de la République, composé de trois bandes verticales bleu, blanc, rouge (bleu et rouge représentent les couleurs de la ville de Paris, et le blanc la monarchie:

Hello fellow sun lovers!
summer is putting on some short shorts and getting ready to step out into our beaches, parks and pools!

to welcome summer back we should remember that as much as we all love it, our skin may not. so chuck on some sunscreen.. take out the Frisbee and enjoy it with family and friends !

We are going to be at Bronte Beach on Sunday 25th September 2010 handing out some frisbees!

Symbol evolution

The criterion of beauty evolves according to times...

In the Renaissance, curves, white complexion, long size, small ears, small feet, short teeth and red cheeks were the

criterions to be pretty. Botticelli has painted the famous painting" the birth

of the vénus " illustrating in the perfection the beauty of the Renaissance. The curves meant "being healthy and Wealth"

These criteria of beauty have changed a lot.

In 2010, the women are tall, thin or androgynous and the skin is nicely tanned. Today the thinness reveals wealth and good food. And contrary to what was the case centuries ago, the curves demonstrate an unhealthy lifestyle.

Religious symbols

Fatima's hand became a symbol in the Muslim world and Middle East. For hundreds of years the Hand of Fatima was worn as the symbol for loyalty and forbearance. Hamsa necklaces and Hamsa bracelets are used to bring good luck and protection to the owners. Some sources link the significance of the five fingers to the Five Pillars of Islam, the core principles of Sunni Islamic faith, though this significance may have been attributed after the fact to a symbol that was around well before Islam.

Eye of Horus

Horus is represented as the falcon-headed god, was an important god in Egyptian legend. The symbol representing his eye, Eye of Horus, was a powerful symbol used to protect from evil. Pronounced "udjat" by the Egyptians, the Eye of Horus represents a human eye with the cheek markings of a falcon.

Me and my group of friends :we got the "surfer's" look. We are living in a small island called New Caledonia, and we are always doing some water sports, or fishing. We wear simple clothes, and we can sometimes have the "hippie" style.

Group of young people, identified as Gothic by wearing black-red clothes and have strong make up. They often got numerous piercings and tattoos. Their clothes are the reflect of their thought.

ACROSS

As the previous symbols, this panel does not need an arrow because the drawing of the legs already indicates the direction of the zebra crossing.

TWO WAYS

These two green panels have streets names written on it, and they are placed in the same direction of the street, so will just need to look up at the panels to know which way to go.

EXIT

One of the most known symbol, the exit panel is in every public area, it indicates where is the way out. Normally placed above a door or in front of a corridor, Exit does not need an arrow to indicate the direction.

AIRPORT

This symbol was taken in a train station .

It indicates which platform and which train to catch to go to the airport.

If someone need to know which way is the airport, he will just has to follow this symbol which will bring him there. Thus, it is not an arrow that we need to follow but a simple image of a plane.

HIGHWAY

The highway symbol is generally at the beginning of a road or an intersection.

It is indeed a directional sign because it indicates where the highway begins.

The use of an arrow is not useful. the white drawings already indicate the direction.
